Sennheiser and Amazon Work Together on the Fight Against Counterfeit Goods
Sennheiser and Amazon regulate online resellers in crime prevention initiative (copy)
Sennheiser, the audio specialist, today announced its partnership with Amazon to crack down on counterfeit goods across Europe. To provide customers with the best service and protection against fake headphones, the two companies will impose strict regulations which will squeeze out offending resellers and safeguard consumers and the integrity of Sennheiser products.
The Global counterfeit market for electronics is estimated to be worth £63.3billion per year*. Without proactive efforts to stop offenders selling illegally, this figure would only increase. From 8th November 2011 the listing of Sennheiser products on Amazon sites will be restricted to resellers who have had a ‘Selling on Amazon’ account for a minimum of one year and an established record for the sale of consumer electronics on the marketplace.
Sennheiser takes every step possible to protect its customers from fake goods. It already has an internal investigative task force to clamp down on counterfeit products, supported by third-parties around the world. With partnerships such as the Amazon one announced today, customers can feel confident that they are getting the genuine article when they buy a Sennheiser product.
During October, Sennheiser brought in C3i, an investigative and intelligence management company, to detect infringing organisations within the UK market. During this period the company seized more than €200,000 (£172,000) worth of counterfeited Sennheiser headphones.
Volker Bartels, President of Corporate Services at Sennheiser and spokesperson for its Executive Management Board, commented: “Trademark and product piracy is a crime that costs consumers and the entire industry billions every year. Sennheiser appreciates this move by Amazon. It highlights how serious trademark infringement has become and that Amazon take this matter seriously. To many legitimate manufacturers this is a step in the right direction.”
“At Sennheiser we invest heavily in research and development in order to provide our customers with the best technology to give the richest, clearest sound possible. Fake goods don’t go through this rigorous process and there is always the possibility that they could harm someone’s hearing, which we consider utterly unacceptable.”
