Sound and Looks in Perfect Harmony for Jane Zhang´s “Personal Look” Tour

On 31 December, famous Chinese singer Jane Zhang finished her “Personal Look” tour with a splendid New Year’s concert in Hainan. The Sennheiser sound ambassador had embarked on tour in October, and thrilled tens of thousands of fans in cities across China.

Jane rose to prominence after getting a place in the 2005 season of Super Girl, a national all-female singing competition in China. For the past five years, the exceptional artist has won the coveted “Best Female Artist” award at the Beijing Pop Music Awards, and was nominated for “Worldwide Act” by the MTV European Music Awards in 2011.

Since 2007 she has been bringing a new music and stage concept to her fans every year, treating them to new musical arrangements as well as extravagant costumes and stage designs. Of course, her microphone is part of this overall concept and matches her wardrobe. For the 2011 tour Sennheiser Greater China presented her with a customised pink SKM 5200-II microphone with KK 105 S head – a perfect addition to her growing collection of customised SKM 5200s which accompanied her on the tour.

Don Lo, FOH engineer for the Personal Look tour (Photo credit: Takie Chan, Beijing Showcitytimes Entertainment Co.Ltd) Don Lo, front-of-house engineer for the “Personal Look” tour, noted: “I’m very impressed with the consistent quality that the Sennheiser SKM 5200 and Neumann KK 105 S provide. Although Jane’s microphones were not manufactured at the same time, the sound for each mic remains the same, making it very easy for me to mix.” Jane’s SKM 5200 microphones are combined with an EM 3732-II twin receiver. She also uses an evolution wireless monitoring system with an SR 350 IEM transmitter.

For instrument miking, Don Lo used a number of evoution e 900 series microphones. “The e 902 dynamic cardioid is ideal for the lowest bass
signals, giving a very nice, low-end tone. I have the e 902 and e 904 with me whatever show I may be doing.”

After the huge success of the tour in 2011, plans are in the pipeline for the show to tour the USA.
